Las Vegas debut for new surface crawler
Atlas Copco’s new DTH crawler rig, the CM 785, will make its debut at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 exhibition in Las Vegas, USA.
This rig, built at Atlas Copco?s US facility in Garland, Texas, combines the straightforward design of the 700-series with the well-proven features and components of the Atlas Copco ROC range.
Compared to its predecessor, the CM 780, the new rig offers a range of improvements that make a significant contribution to increased productivity.
It can drill to a depth of 39.4 m (129 ft) ? a full 10 m more than the CM 780 ? and also handles 5 m rods, which reduces the need for frequent rod changes and speeds up the drilling process.
In addition, the new rig has a sturdy aluminium feed. This is equipped with a cylinder-driven feed system that provides smooth feeding and contributes to high penetration rates and long accessory life. The sliding surfaces are protected by easily exchangeable steel caps that virtually eliminate wear on the feed.
A powerful rotary head provides a torque of 6100 NM (4500 lbf) and flushing air at 405 l/s at 24 bar (862 cfm at 350 psi) powers the rig for drilling holes up to 165 mm (6.5″) in diameter in a wide range of rock conditions.
The rig also features variable speed-cooling fan controls, load-sense hydraulics and engine-auto throttle for energy saving and minimized fuel con-sumption. The rig?s ground clearance is 432 mm (17″) and there are full length rock guards which enable the rig to handle drilling in rough terrain.
The ergonomically designed cabin is FOPS and ROPS certified and is mounted on the main frame, independent of track movement, for better visibility and safety. The six-way adjustable seat and armrest controls, combined with a noise level below 80 db, provides a comfortable working environment for the operator. A selection of factory-installed optional equipment is also available including an extreme cold climate package.
Epiroc operated under the trademark “Atlas Copco” prior to January 1, 2018.
