Croatian contractor in fast lane for highways

2006 Sep 12

Geobim, one of Croatia’s most successful drilling contractors, has gained a formidable reputation for efficiency in providing blasted aggregate for the country’s new highways.

In 2005 Geobim was chosen by Austrian contractor Strabag to produce aggregate from two quarries for a major highway construction project to link the towns of Vibovec and Bjelovar. To meet the production schedule, Geobim uses two Atlas Copco ROC D7 drill rigs at separate quarries with each rig achieving an output of 8,000 m3 of aggregate per day.

The contract builds on the success of the company’s earlier work. An example being the 2003 sub-contract to excavate 400,000 m3 of limestone for the road linking the capital Zagreb in the north, to Split in the south. Three ROC D7 rigs were put to work and by the end of the project Geobim had secured its reputation in the road-building sector.

Epiroc operated under the trademark “Atlas Copco” prior to January 1, 2018.
