Tunnel fever in Central and Eastern Europe
As international tunneling experts prepare to gather in Croatia this May for the 41st World Tunnel Congress, tunneling in Central and Southeast Europe is reaching fever pitch. In Slovakia, the Slovak National Motorway Company is pressing ahead with numerous investments and already four new tunnels are in use, eight are under construction and a further 22 are planned. In Serbia, now an EU candidate, several projects are also underway including three new tunnels along the strategically important highways Corridors 10 and 11. Throughout the region, Atlas Copco is playing a key role in helping contractors to find solutions to tough tunneling conditions. M&C reports on their progress.
