The dam builders’ dream

A new dam being built near the Algerian capital will bring water supplies to its growing population and irrigation to the agricultural lands surrounding it. But difficult ground conditions threatened to slow down the construction process.

MINERA MARIA’S PRE-SPLIT PIONEER

Open-pit mining at the revived Minera Maria mine is forging ahead. Modern surface drilling methods and efficient recovery of the copper ore are breathing new life into this once abandoned mine. M&C visited the mine to find out exactly how the change of fortune is being achieved.

When size REALLY matters

Drilling anchor holes in the confined space of a cut-and-cover tunnel where a standard feed cannot be used. The ROC D7, short feed version, was the answer.

NEW ROAD TO DRILLING AC

Norwegian contractor Mesta is improving the efficiency of its blasting operations using GPS-guided drilling equipment. To witness the systems in action, M&C visited the Romarheim road improvement project, 50 kilometres northeast of Bergen.
