How the Symmetric casing system manages to install piles for a new railway bridge in difficult ground in Stockholm, Sweden.

Work to drive piles into the canal bed for a new railway bridge faced delays when unconsolidated ground was encountered. The new foundations were to be built close to the existing bridge?s foundations and required a drilling technique that would cause a minimum of disturbance.

Working with drilling contractor, Terramek, Atlas Copco Rotex developed a customized Symmetrix ring and pilot bit. The new system proved faster and coped well with the unconsolidated ground, allowing completion of the piling phase
