Chamera charges to completion

The Chamera III hydropower project in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh includes the construction of a 68 m high concrete gravity dam, a headrace tunnel almost 16 km long and a 125 m tailrace. Added to this are underground caverns for the powerhouse and transformer, desilting chambers, a surge shaft and surge shaft gallery. More than 1.3 million square metres of rock will be excavated from the underground works and more than 23,000 square metres from the surface.

NHPC Ltd is the government agency responsible for commissioning the Chamera III project with Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) contracted to carry out the rock excavation after having completed Stages I & II.
