When Bloomsburg University, Pennsylvania, USA, needed to build an extension, it was faced with a problem; there was no room left on the campus to build on. M&C visited the site to find out how they resolved the problem.

The decision was made to build underground, but how to support the brick building, constructed in 1938, while excavating an additional three stories below ground presented a problem. Traditional methods, such as installing enormous staggered pillars to support the existing structure were considered. But there was a faster, less expensive, and safer way to do the job ? the Atlas Copco MAI Self-Drilling Anchor (SDA) system.
